Fire Ball
Velocity, physics, and pyro simulation work together to create this small fireball effect.
The fire and smoke are generated using Houdini's Pyro Solver.The source object(sphere) emits values such as fuel, temperature, and density,which are simulated over time to create the final fire and smoke effect.
Creating a Small Fireball in Houdini
This project explores the creation of a small fireballeffect using Houdini’s Pyro tools. The goal was to combine procedural, rigidbody simulation, and pyro dynamics to create a believable fire and smoke effect.
Source Shape
The simulation begins with a sphere acting as the sourcegeometry for the fireball. It defines the initial shape, density, and velocityfor the simulation.
Attribute Noise
To avoid a perfectly symmetrical explosion Attribute Noise applied.
This adds irregularities that create more natural fire and smoke patterns.
Generating Motion
Two Trail nodes were used to generate velocity for thesimulation:
These velocity fields drive the fire and smoke behavior.They help create a more natural and dynamic simulation.
Rigid Body Simulation
The fireball motion is simulated using the RBD BulletSolver. Gravity, collisions, friction, and bounce control the interaction withthe ground. This defines the physical movement of the fireball before pyrosimulation.
Pyro Simulation
The generated velocity is converted into a velocity volume.This volume is used as input for the Pyro Solver. Additional substeps areincreased to improve stability and smooth motion.
Shading and Rendering
The Emission Remap Range in Redshift Volume settings isanimated. This helps control the intensity and lifespan of flames. It alsoreduces excessive thickness in the fire during simulation.
